Hi guys,
I'm sitting at my new iMAC listening to my "downloaded" copy of Metalica's new release, Death magnet.
This review however is about a long search I've had trying to find a baffle for my RB Racing pro stock header.
The pipe is a full race highly designed 2 into 1 pipe for EVOS.
Everything about the pipe is great except how the boys in blue dislike it at stops.
It cracks and pops like a full race pipe should when attached to a... full race motor.
The baffle if thats what you want to call it is designed for straight pipes.
If you want to use it and you have a baffle already in your pipe, you need to remove it before installing the "Quiet Riot" as it's called.
The Quiet Riot is made from a machined piece of aluminum billet that has chamfers on both ends, somewhat like a torque cone.
It is installed about 4 to 6 inches into your pipe with a 1/4 20 screw.
Attached to the billet piece is long threaded cap screw that has a spring around it pushing on a metal ball.
The ball does not close the opening at all; Iooking at it I approximate it to be about 1/2 of the opening.
After installation, I fired the scoot up and listened for some great thing.... nope, it was still loud but, a different kind a loud.
The ear piercing crack from a big motor with open pipes was reduced to a level that didn't even bother my wife and thats saying a lot.
When you give the throttle a nice crack, the bike sounds just like it did without the Quiet Riot installed.
Now it gets interesting; I'm on the road doing about 2200 rpm and it sounds throaty and strong, I hit it and all hell breaks loose like it was when the pipe was open.
The midrange hit and pull now is sooo much stronger than it was originally and that was a hell of a lot.
The motor is now a stump pulling monster that will literally boil the tire in the first 3 gears with ease.
When I let off of the throttle, I was waiting for the gunshots firing upon every down shift.
What I got was just a few small ones with the sound of air being slowed down to the point that most people would not notice hardly at all.
For some of us, this is the perfect baffle, doesn't mess with the sound of open pipes that we love but gives us a big shot of midrange power that is what v twin are all about.
The decel cracking sound of fishtail pipes and any other open pipe is reduced by about 80%.
Nowhere doesn't care about riding through town anymore.
If the man wants to stop me, it's because I was doing something wrong, not riding loud pipes.
The piece is called "Quiet Riot".
The company is called Rocky Mountain Performance.

Here's some pics. (disregard my big toe)

I'm cursed....
After changing out the primary chain and taking care of that little drip from the inner primary / starter seal, I felt that all was well.
I take her out on the freeway to wring her out.... no problems.
Coming off the freeway, I notice that i'm popping again on decel and it sounds louder again.
I check the pipe, the Quiet riot baffle is missing!!
This things was installed to spec, with blue loctite and 1/4 -20 screws.
I even had to wiggle it past two rivets that hold the RBR emblem on the collector.
I don't understand how this thing came out... FUCK...
