in Australia the government is trying to ban clubs from wearing patchs
and make it illegal to associate with club members
does this crap happen in usa?

Personally I think it is important. Their concerns are valid.
Likes or dislikes about the outlaw community aside the question of freedom of association, secret evidence being used against you etc are important.
How will the law define an outlaw motorcycle club. Riding harleys, weekend runs? drinking beer? having members who commit a criminal offense?
What
happens if some politician frames the laws to read as "If X number of
members of a motorcycle club commit a criminal offense then the club
shall be declared outlaw".
