This can apply to everyone I am sure. I have just recently gotten my permit and my husband had the bright idea to teach me a lesson and let me ride his Harley electra glide which due to motor work has an evo engine with about 1400 cc. Way to much for me but, I have been bugging him to get a harley for my first bike, and not some little sportster nooooo, I want the V-rod muscle as soon as I can figure out how to touch the foot controls. Well needless to say he says I can get one IF I can ride his! I agreed forgetting that just because I can read something and pass a test doesn't mean that I can actually put it into physical motion. So he shows me about where the clutch and the throttle meet to not stall and tells me to go across the road in this parking lot to the other parking space across the way. So I let off the brake, go, somehow turn right and then left, the the back of what looks to be a brand new Nissan Exterra and dump it! I did not hit the car, I did not break any bones, I did wreck the crash bars and I went about 20 feet! Is it wrong that I am proud of this small thing? I think my only regret is when I hit the pavement and started going owey, owey owey and not cursing like a sailor as I usually do! I've gotten soft! I suffered only minor injuries scrapes and skinnings and I am ready to try again - after I take the safety course at the local community college!!!! It freaks me out that I may have grown up at some point, all I could think of staring at the back of that suv was A) how much is this gonna cost, b) I need to hit the break and c) I really don't care about damage to me or mine I really DO NOT want to hit that car! Once I stopped saying Owey I did start laughing like a crazy women - nice to know I can keep my sense of humor. Oh I was laughing because though the bike did not make it to the specified parking spot - it did park itself directly in the middle of the white lines of A parking space right next to the Exterra. I'll learn and until then I will stick to parking lots - I'm only giving myself a year befor I try the road with other people! It really is me I do not trust right now - I'll worry about the others once I start to trust myself!!! Hope you all get at least a laugh out of this and for new riders - Your GOING to dump it regardless of what you think - just dump it in a controlled environment to decrease personal injury!
